Using photographs culled from 40 years of taking pictures around the world, Todd explores the art and artistry of photography. This show features stunning images ranging from New Zealand to Peru, Bora-Bora to the Caribbean, Venice to the Grand Canyon, Antarctica to Africa. Todd explores photography’s power to freeze time, capture moments in life, discover hidden worlds, and show us our world from unique and thought-provoking perspectives. Accompanied by several films.
The BEACH of HISTORY
Over his years of taking pictures, Todd has shot pictures of just about everything: nature, sports, fashion, architecture, events and places. But nothing is more challenging or rewarding than candid portraits of people he has encountered on his travels. This lecture looks at the power of life's everyday moments to express our shared humanity. It also presents a portfolio of Todd’s powerful portraits from around the world, accompanied by his stories of meeting these people. Todd shares how he goes about engaging and photographing people, and presents some films that set his images to music. This talk inspires viewers to seek out and interact with strangers as they travel.
The LIBERATION of LIMITATIONS
"To really see you must limit your vision." This talk is based on a year-long project in which Todd is "limiting his vision" by photographing 1 mile with 1 camera and 1 lens. The mile is the coastline from Todd's home on Shore Avenue in Groton to the Avery Point Lighthouse. Beginning with a gallery of images from Todd's world travels to show "exotic" photography, the lecture then turns to his own "backyard" and the challenges of photographing a familiar place. The lecture includes "X100", a 15-minute film of the B&W images he shot set to music. X100 refers to the Fujifilm X100 camera Todd is using for this project, all shot in B&W.
Todd has spent his career creating award-winning media presentations of many styles on a diverse range of subjects. He was the Director of Multi-Image and an Exevutive Producer for National Geographic for almost 20 years. In this talk, Todd shares his experience and insights into writing for media, photography, editing, use of narration and interviews, music, and styles of preserntaions.
He will screen shows he has created and discuss strategies and techniques for effective communication. If you have photographs you want to weave into compelling presentations that will strike a responsive chord with your audience, this talk will open your eyes to the possible ways of doing so. This talk is not highly technical; it focuses more on the philosophy of simple, emotional media. "Media with a message."
